Elopement, Malta //Meri & Miika

This was one of my favourite shoots that I have ever done… Welcome to the elopement of Meri and Miika! These first wedding portraits have been taken on the most beautiful cliff near Paradise Bay beach in Malta. We started planning this shoot with the bride who is also a good friend of mine, it took about half a year from the idea to this magical evening. Meri has always been so good at anything she takes on and it was so cool to see this idea come life. I really love to see when people take time for each other and organise a small gathering to celebrate love for each other.

Before the elopement we had scouted the whole island of Malta for a quiet portrait and vow reading spot and after a long search in google earth we went to see this view spot. And it was just as magic as I had hoped for. As a portrait photographer I know how important it is to find a place that feels comfortable and is quiet so you can really guide the couple and give them their own space. I think it’s so much fun to search for the coolest spots all around Europe to give the best results for my wedding couples!

Once we arrived on this first elopement spot the sun was still quite high but the bride and groom did so great even in the direct sun. We were playing with their own shadows and I could not be happier with the photos we got. I think there photos really represent the couple in this still view enjoying this view with each other.

Let’s get in to the photos. And I need to say that I am just so happy that we got to experience this and capture the story of these two.

When it come to the elopement shoots, I love the planning of it all, looking at the sunset times and going to look fo different locations and seeing how the places feel. Here I felt like it was the perfect first shoot location in Malta. I really love the story telling side of the things so I told Meri and Miika to be the main characters of their own movie. I always give some direction to the couple but sometimes it’s amazing to see how they start owning the shoot and suddenly they know exactly what to do. I got to capture just them being themselves and was amazing to see how for one moment the whole world just disappeared and it was jus the two of them. It’s so magical when that happens and I’m so grateful to be capturing these kind of moments that this couple will cherish and look back for a long time.

That was our start of the elopement in the beautiful and rough views in this island. There is still more of this story to come.. ❤️

And now thank you to the loveliest couple Meri and Miika, and thank you Aroha for filming the prettiest wedding film for these two.
