The Road to Almería
Our wedding journey started with an early morning road trip from Cadiz, past Malaga and to the start of the Mediterranean coast. The water started to look more turquoise and the orange trees switched into yellow stone rocky hills. Almería is rural, absolutely beautiful and one of my favourite places in Spain. I was so excited for this wedding for the whole year. We arrived at the venue at Cortijo la Loma in Almería a day before and woah, the views!! You got the best of both worlds, the Almería yellow hills and the blue water and insane cliffs by the beach. I could not wait till the wedding day!
The Groom Had a Vision
We met the groom first in the yard and he came to say hi with a smile and showed us what he had been planning for his getting ready pictures. I LOVE when grooms have their own vision! After that I went to say hi to Annelise, literally the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. She was still in her make up so we had the time to focus on the groom first.
For some more editorial shots we had planned to move a leather couch in the middle of the yard so it looked like in the middle of the desert and then serve some cava and cigars and just let the guys take care of the rest. Oh and they did! One friend started playing violin in the background when the groom was poured a glass of wine, magical! It was the best mix of editorial wedding photography but captured in documentary style, you set the scene but then let life happen!
The Bride
After that I went back to the bride just to capture the finishing touches and getting on to the dress. The wedding dress was so dreamy and exactly her! She was glowing! We had a beautiful courtyard full of flowers, the most perfect backdrop for some editorial wedding portraits of Annelise before the big moment!
Purple Against the Sea, Ceremony
The wedding planners from Cuentos de Hadas had done set up a stage, filled with dramatic deep purple flowers which was an amazing contrast for the backdrop of the blue sea. The guests from all over the world started arriving to this quiet corner of the world and soon the ceremony space had filled up. This is what I love in design-led weddings, the set up is so beautiful but when you fill it with life and stories, it has a character of its own!
Vogue Meets Documentary
For their portraits we had some Vogue style inspiration and I really wanted to play with the composition for their portraits. As an editorial wedding photographer this is one of the parts that I look most forward to and to work with these two was truly a blast. It felt like we were all a creative team sharing ideas together and just having fun with it! I of course included a lot of film since it was only necessary!
Cocktails With a View
This wedding was full of personality and you could see that it really reflected the couple. To start the cocktail you walked first to the Martini wall, deep purple wall full of statue hands holding the drinks, genius! Then you just continued to admire the views with delicious food and a venenciador to pour you a sherry. Moving to the dinner the deep purple tones continued in the table settings and the terrace was filled with light, laughter and dancing.
A Little Taste of Brazil
After the dinner it was time to move to the party, but not without visiting their Brazil giftshop. The bride was from Brazil and wanted everybody to have a little keepsake to remember their wedding. The party moved to the outdoor dance floor under the setting sun. Iconically the DJ played with the big sea as the backdrop and the mountains to frame every shot of the outdoor club they had created.
Champagne at Sunset
It was the most perfect day for this couple! We ended the day with a champagne tower and a few photos in the sunset. This was one of the most anticipated weddings of the year for me and to see all the designs come to life in one of my favourite places in Spain was amazing! This destination wedding in Almería was such a beautiful one to photograph as an Almería wedding photographer, with a mix of editorial wedding photography, documentary moments and 35mm film.
